Broadview Heights, Ohio

This is the Broadview Developmental Center. It was built in
1939 as the Broadview Veterans Administration Hospital. It was
mainly used to treat tuberculosis, durring a period which TB
had become a major threat. In 1966, with the threat of
tuberculosis diminishing, the hospital traded hands. It was
now in control of the state of Ohio, and became the Developmental
Center. The center was used mainly to house and care for the
mentally retarded.

In 1989, with de-institutionalzation sweeping through the
nations asylums and sanatoriums, Broadview was closed down.
In 1995 the city of Broadview Heights spent five million dollars
to renovate a third of the building, and turn it into a rec
center. The other part of the building however, remains abandoned.

Its been said that this building is near impossible to get into.
Its boreded up pretty tight, part of it is still in use, and
the police station is literally a stones throw away. We do have
a few pictures though, and more comming soon.

I want to strongly discourage anyone from trying to go here.
First of all if the risk of being arrested is'nt enough, this
place is full of asbestos, and God only knows what else.
